Scientific Name: Myzomela sanguinolenta A small Australian native Honeyeater with a vivid scarlet red and black bird & whitish underparts. The females and immature birds are dull brown with whitish underparts and reddish wash on the chin. It is found from Cape York in the north to Gippsland in the south. Size: 9 to 11 cm Breeding: July to January Food: Mainly nectar sometimes fruit & insects in upper levels of tree canopy. Scarlet Honeyeater - male
